Volumetric Weight
SO HOW ARE OUR PRICES CALCULATED?
Prices depend on actual or volumetric weight whichever is higher:
- Actual weight- The real weight of the item
- Volumetric weight – Volumetric weight refers to the overall size of a parcel and is measured in volumetric kilograms. Volumetric weight can be calculated by multiplying the length, width and height of a parcel (in cm) by dividing that figure by 5000, Similarly in the case of (inches) dividing the figure by 139.
We use the greater value between these two to determine the shipment’s price.
Using CM and KG
To calculate the volumetric weight of an object in KG using Cm,
We use this formula for size: (Depth x Height x Width) / 5000 = Volumetric Weight in kilogram
To determine the price, we consider both the weight and size of your items.
The final cost is based on actual weight and volumetric weight whichever is higher. This means that a lightweight but bulky item might cost the same as a small, heavy item. For example, a 15kg suitcase measuring 50cm x 70cm x 40cm has an actual weight of 15kg but a volumetric weight of 28kg (calculated as (50x70x40)/5000 = 28). So the chargeable price is for 28kg as volumetric is higher than actual weight.
If the actual weight is more than the volumetric, we will charge for actual weight. (If the actual weight is 30kg and volumetric is 28kg). Chargeable price will be for 30 kg actual weight. As actual is more than the volumetric weight)
Using INCHES and Ibs
To calculate the volumetric weight of an object in pounds using inches,
We use this formula for size: Volume: Depth x Height x Width) / 139 = Volumetric Weight in pounds
For example, let’s say you have a suitcase that weighs 40 pounds and measures 12 inches in depth, 28 inches in height, and 19 inches in width. You can calculate its volumetric weight like this:
(12 x 28 x 19) / 139 = 45.92 pounds
So, even though the actual weight of the suitcase is 40 pounds, its volumetric weight is 45.92 pounds. This means it would fall into the 45.92 pounds.
Items over 1.2m or 47 inches
If your item exceeds 1.2 metres (or 47 inches) in length, it will need to be handled manually, and there’s an additional charge of £/$/€80 per item. Please note that the maximum allowable length for international shipments is 220cm (or 86 inches). Items longer than this cannot be accepted.
For shipments within the UK and Northern Ireland, you can send items weighing up to 30kg each. When you book a shipment, our system checks if your item is too large. You can use our size checker tool to verify this.
Here are the size restrictions:
- The longest side of your item should not be more than 1.5 metres.
- The sum of the longest side and twice the sum of the other two sides (length + 2 x (breadth + width)) should not exceed 300 cm.
